Freedom to AHMET SIK!

AHMET SIK is a journalist; he has been arrested and put into custody without the relevant evidence of his alleged crime being explained.

AHMET SIK is a journalist; he has tried to expose the facts of torture, dissappearance under custody, unresolved political killings and crime organizations based in state with his writings and reports up until the day his freedom was restrained.

AHMET SIK is a photojournalist; he has focused his camera on reality. He has tried to make clear the
injustices with his photographs, he supported the rights’ struggles and always stood for marginalized
and oppressed people.

AHMET SIK is a photojournalist; with his photo-interview called “LANDMINE”(MAYIN) he pointed to
the disastrous impacts of war and armament, he worked for a world without violence.

AHMET SIK is under custody; his freedom to witness life with his news reports, writings and
photographs has been taken from his hands.

We, photographers, will continue to look at life from where we stand up until AHMET SIK is free
again. We will take photographs. We will take photographs of a flower we see one morning or a
demonstration for rights or the street, our neighbourhood, our joy and our hope in order to send
those to Ahmet.

We will publish our pictures in any technique even as a computer printout, no matter we take them
with professional equipments or simply by our cellphones and send them to Ahmet Sik’s temporary
address. We will share our witnessings with Ahmet.

(As file names of the photographs we shall use our names and surnames without using Turkish
letters. We may also add our notes to Ahmet as a word document attached to the same e-mail
where we are sending our photographs)

After AHMET SIK is free again we will organize an exhibition with these photographs and with our
notes to remember what we all have gone through.

We will not give up the fight for our pens and cameras, which have never been totally free in any
period, to become really free and independent.
